They had invested lakhs in 'illegal' schemes which were part of a racket busted by police recently
At one end when the security agencies are urging citizens not to fall prey to attractive chit fund schemes, five women officers of deputy superintendent of police rank of the state CID have failed to prevent themselves from getting lured.
The officers have invested lakhs in the ‘illegal’ chit fund scheme which was run by Nitin Narke. Narke was recently arrested by the Hadapsar police for allegedly duping thousands of people to the tune of crores of rupees under the pretext of handsome returns.
Investigations have revealed that the alleged fraudsters had visited the CID office several times and have also given handsome returns to the officers. According to the sources, the officers have also developed a good rapport with the fraudsters.
A senior CID officer said, “After these officers invested money, the fraudsters used it as an opportunity to lure more people.”
When asked about the investment of the five women officers in the illegal scheme, additional director general of police and CID chief SPS Yadav said, “It is a serious matter. If there are black ships in our department, we will not spare them. We will inquire this matter in detail and thereafter the further course of action will be decided.”
Vigilance tightened at headquarter
The department has installed a thumb impression detector for the officers at the headquarter. This will keep a tab on the late coming officers
If any outsider wants to meet an officer, he or she will have to register his/her name at the main gate of the department. Later, the concerned person would verify whether an appointment has been taken. On this basis will the visitor be allowed.
CCTV cameras have been installed at the entrance of the headquarter.
Displaying identity card has been made mandatory
The department has also issued a notice to one Pandit Rathod who was termed ‘wanted’ in 2009 by the department. Interestingly Pandit had been visiting the headquarter quite often
