Thursday morning saw high drama at Sardar Vallabh Ashram English Medium School in Sion as 20-25 activists of the Yuva Sena, Shiv Sena’s youth wing, went on the rampage, vandalised furniture and assaulted a peon.

The activists were protesting against the school authorities’ negligence towards the safety of children, which had resulted in the death of eight-year-old Viraj Parmar on Wednesday.

The activists forcibly entered the school premises and demanded to see the contract between the school and the bus owner. They asked the principal, Rosy Singh, to show photographs of the bus to check if it followed safety norms. But, the school neither produced the papers nor the photographs.

“They evaded our questions and claimed they currently did not have the contract papers and would have to look for them. We told them that we were ready to wait for as long as they wanted, but they did not show us the documents,” said Krishna Nelge, a member of the Yuva Sena.

The agitated activists reportedly broke four to five chairs and tables in the school office and even manhandled the peon. The school authorities complained to the police, who arrested six activists. They will be produced in the local metropolitan magistrate’s court on Friday morning.
