In support of Anna Hazare’s fast and ‘jail bharo’ movement protesting against a weak Lokpal Bill introduced in Parliament, the Pune chapter of India Against Corruption (IAC) has decided to go on a peaceful protest from December 27.

Joining the movement in huge numbers are city youth who have registered in thousands on IAC’s website and SMS service.
Deepak Bharadia, volunteer of IAC, Pune said that the protests would begin by a relay fast and ‘dharna’ on the riverbed near Baba Bhide Bridge which falls behind PMPML’s Deccan Gymkhana bus terminus.

“In less than 48 hours, more than 200 people have registered for the fast and we are expecting a total of 1,000 people to gather there. From December 30, we would start the ‘jail bharo’ andolan where people would court arrest and this form of protest has seen tremendous response especially from the youth,” he said. He said that 2,300 people, mostly youth, had registered for ‘jail bharo’
so far.

“We have a website www.jailchalo.com or people can register by texting Jail followed by City Name to 575758. Besides main venue, IAC volunteers would join citizens at various parts in city like Aundh, NIBM Road, Kondhwa, Pimpri, Kothrud, Pimpri-Chinchwad and others,’’ he said.
