Two city youths, accused of kidnapping a 20-year-old girl student appearing for the ongoing higher secondary examination, were granted bail by the court on a personal bond of Rs7,500 each.

Sandeep alias Sunny Machhindra Dhage, 21, and Salman Shaukat Choudhary, 19, both residents of Kasba Peth, were produced in the court on Saturday by the Vishrambaug police on Saturday morning following a complaint lodged by the victim. Dhage and the victim knew each other.

Police said after her exam last Thursday, she was waiting for her brother outside the examination centre in Narayan Peth.

"Suddenly the duo arrived and abducted her in a Sumo vehicle. When she resisted, they threatened to kill her. They also took away her mobile phone and admit card," the police told the court. She was taken to Khadakwasla dam.

From there, they took the victim to Samadhan Hotel located at the base of Sinhagad Fort and later released her. "The victim reported the matter to the hotel manager who gave her Rs50 and sent her home in a PMPML bus," police said.

The police requested the court for a week's remand to recover the vehicles and the mobile phone of the victim. The suspects’ counsels said the girl is an adult and a friend of Dhage.
