Women arrested with illicit liquor on train

The railway police helpline helped the Kurla railway police nab two women commuters, who were transporting illicit liquor in plastic bags in a luggage compartment of a CST-bound on Monday morning.

The railway police helpline helped the Kurla railway police nab two women commuters, who were transporting illicit liquor in plastic bags in a luggage compartment of a CST-bound on Monday morning.

“Chellama Devender, 33 and Jyoti Shetty, 33, both residents of Sion Koliwada were booked under the Prohibition Act. Besides arresting duo, the police seized 90litres of hooch concealed in the nine big plastic pouches,” said senior police inspector Shivaji Dhumal of Kurla railway police station.

He added that preliminary investigation revealed that Devender was a history sheeter and she was earlier arrested by the Kurla railway police on June 15, 2006 for carrying hooch.

When the train reached Kurla, police rushed to the luggage compartment and nabbed the two women with hooch, added Dhumal.
