The Malabar Hill police arrested a man for allegedly molesting a woman on a BEST bus on Saturday.

Uttamsingh Narayansingh Negi, 38, who was beaten up by the commuters after the woman raised an alarm, was later handed over to the police.

According to the police, the victim (name withheld), had boarded Bus No. 122 for Malabar Hill at around 5pm. Negi, who was also at the same bus stop, allegedly followed the victim and boarded the same bus. “The victim alleged that Negi molested her in the bus while buying a ticket,” said an officer from Malabar Hill police station.

The officer added that the victim decided not to raise an alarm since was about to get off the bus. “As she was about to get down at Malabar Hill, she saw that Negi was following her. Sensing trouble, the victim raised an alarm and caught the attention of other commuters. The commuters then beat up Negi and handed him over to the Malabar Hill police," the officer said.

Negi was later released on bail on payment of Rs5,000 as surety, the officer said.
