A 30-year-old woman has filed a case against her husband and in-laws for harassing her.

She has also accused her husband of creating a fake identity in her name on a social networking site, uploading obscene photos and her cellphone number. She has been described as ‘Shobha aunty’ on that website.

The victim has lodged a first information report at Sahakarnagar police station, accusing her husband Nikhil Utekar (32), a software engineer, his mother Mangala (60) and his father Prakash (63), all residents of Aniket Society in Bibvewadi, of harassing her.

The police have booked the suspects under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, 1860 including harassment and criminal breach of trust.

The police said the couple had an arranged marriage in May last year. The victim holds a degree in computer science and worked at a Loni-based private company. Police sub-inspector Tejashree Jadhav  said Nikhil’s mother demanded jewellery as dowry.

“The victim lost her job during the recession and then Nikhil started torturing her. He told her he had an affair and demanded a divorce,” Jadhav said.

The in-laws allegedly passed vulgar comments at the victim. The victim’s parents discussed the issue with Nikhil and his parents, who allegedly demanded gifts and gold on every festival for a year, according to the police.

The victim told DNA that due to harassment, she went to her mother’s place. Later, Nikhil approached her and told her to look for a job. She went back to stay at Nikhil’s house.  One day, she started receiving vulgar calls and SMSes from unknown persons. She went back to live with her parents. There too, the calls and SMSes continued.

“One of the callers told me that he had obtained her number from the social networking site. In August, I approached the cyber cell. It was traced to my father-in-law’s broadband facility,” she said.
