Wife murdered, husband on the run

A 40-year-old woman was found murdered in her residence at Goregaon in the wee hours of Wednesday. The police are searching for her husband who has gone missing after the incident.

According to the police, the deceased, Putai Devendra, lived with her husband Duraiswamy and two sons in the Santosh Nagar BMC colony in Goregaon (East). Duraiswami was an alcoholic and the couple had frequent fights.  

“Duraiswamy came home drunk last night and had an argument with Putai. In a fit of anger he picked up a heavy stone and hit his wife on her head. He ran away while his sons were asleep,” said a police officer. 

The incident came to light after their 16-year-old son woke up and saw his mother lying in a pool of blood. He then informed their neighbours and the police were called. The body has been sent to Bhagwati hospital for a post mortem.

“Duraiswami has been missing from his residence after the incident. The sons heard their argument but when the incident took place they were sleeping,” said senior police inspector V Kakade of Dindoshi police station. “We have launched a manhunt for Duraiswami and a murder case has been registered.”
