Western Railway suburban services were affected for half an hour after commuters staged a protest and stopped trains in both the directions at Lower Parel station after a ticket checker and a RPF constable allegedly got into an handicapped compartment of a train and tried to nab a student.

While the government railway police confirmed the incident, surprisingly there was no clarity about the incident at WR headquarters in Churchgate as senior officials described it as a fight between two set of passengers and gave different versions about the incident.

A commuter in the train said that there were announcements in the train saying that there was a jan andolan leading to delays. Railway officials at the station said that trains were affected for half an hour.

Chief public relations officer of the Western Railway Sharat Chandrayan said, “‘There was a fight between two sets of passengers in a train and an unidentified person pulled the alarm chain. The train halted for about 10-15 minutes at the Lower Parel station. No further details were available.”

Senior police inspector of Mumbai Central railway police Shivaji Shinde said that they had got the ticket checker and the commuter to the police station for further investigations.
