The Yavatmal Zilla Parishad has resolved to prepone all its school exams this year due to the prevailing drinking water scarcity in the district.

According to the chairman of the Education Committee Arun Raut, there is acute drinking water scarcity in the district. A meeting presided over by Raut, decided to hold the annual promotion exam of the schools run by the Yavatmal Zilla Parishad from April 5.

Generally annual promotion exams in ZP schools used to be conducted from April 20 every year but this year it would begin from April 5, the sources said.

The Education Committee has taken stock of other burning issues faced by the ZP schools in the district which includes the converting of the 'E class' land lying waste adjacent to the Zilla Parishad schools into income generating sources.

It is gathered that over 110 hectare of E class land is available adjacent to 41 schools of ZP under Yavatmal Panchayat Samiti alone and it would be converted into business premises to generate regular income.

It is speculated that the land would be leased out at throw away prices to private developers after "striking an under table deal" by the people in power as was done in many other cases earlier.
