President Pratibha Patil stressed on the need to apply innovative ideas and technology for making rainfed land fertile and to satisfy the country’s need for power through alternative resources.

She was speaking at the inauguration of DSK Supinfocom International Campus on Pune-Solapur Road on Friday.

DSK Supinfocom is a joint venture between the DSK Group and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of North De France (CCINDF).

The institute offers courses in animation, videogame designing and industrial designing.

Patil said that those with innovative ideas need to find a way to make life easier for farmers in rainfed areas. Turning such plots into fertile land would not only help the farmers, but also increase productivity and add to the produce of the country.

“We need to see how technology and ideas can be put to use for rural development along with urban progress. Another important need is that of power. We have to look for alternative energy resources. India can make use of solar energy, but the cost of this energy needs to be brought down,” she said.

Congratulating DSK Group for its venture, she said that they also needed to look into these areas.

Animation, gaming and industrial design is a growing sector in need of human resources. DSK Supinfocom’s international campus will train youngsters in these fields to cater to the demand.

Expressing concern over the deteriorating sex ratio, she appreciated DSK Group’s initiative to curb illegal sex determination. She insisted on training and awareness campaigns to change the social mindset about the
girl child.
