In a bizarre case, the Deccan Gymkhana police station has registered a case of stealing of a frozen ovum (egg) against a 30-year-old woman who got herself impregnated with it.

The woman, a software engineer, had allegedly used a decoy to obtain the egg, which belongs to 51-year-old Chandrakant Tukaram Kunjir’s wife, Chhaya.

Kunjir is a professor of mechanical engineering at the prestigious College of Engineering Pune (CoEP). The complaint against the woman was lodged by Kunjir on Saturday.

Incidentally, the woman has in the past lodged two complaints with the police against Kunjir and his wife, for allegedly harassing her.

Kunjir alleged that the woman had illegally purloined off frozen eggs his wife, stored in Gupte Hosptial off Bhandarkar Road. He alleged that on September 6, when he was in police custody, the woman had approached the hospital claiming to be Kunjir’s legal wife.

She took along a man impersonating as Kunjir, to sign the relevant documents for the release of the frozen egg. The complaint claimed that the woman has become pregnant by using the said egg.

According to the police, the woman was having a affair with Kunjir since 1999, when she was a student of engineering. Inspite of knowing about the marital status of Kunjir, the woman allegedly married him in Mahad in 2007.

On two occasions she had been allegedly impregnated by Kunjir in the years 2009 and 2010, but suffered miscarriages. She had registered cases of harassment against Kunjir, his wife and son, blaming them for her miscarriage.

On September 6, she had registered a case of domestic violence against Kunjir, which had led to his arrest by the Loni Kalbhor police. Fed up of the bickering in his family, Kunjir had allegedly deserted the woman in March this year.
