Two more chain snatching cases over weekend in Pune

Two unidentified youth on a motorcycle snatched a Mangalsutra and gold chain, together valued at Rs45,000, on Saturday morning in Kothrud.

Two incidents of chain snatching were reported in Kothrud and Swargate areas  of the city on Saturday.

Two unidentified youth on a motorcycle snatched a Mangalsutra and gold chain, together valued at Rs45,000, on Saturday morning in Kothrud. A complaint in this regard has been registered by Ramlaxmi Srinathan Naidu (53) with Kothrud police.

Naidu, a resident of Nirmalya co-operative housing society, was returning from her morning walk and was near Kilbil School, where two motorcycle-borne men snatched the Mangalsutra and a gold chain and fled.

In the second incident, three unidentified persons allegedly robbed a 24-year-old man, Kunal Bharat Phalapnagar, of his gold chain (Rs40,000) on Saturday night in Salisbury Park. Kunal and his brother Jatin were returning home on Saturday night, when their two-wheeler was hit by another from behind.

The brothers fell off their vehicle, when the three unidentified men snatched the gold chain at knife point and fled on their motorcycle.

Pickpocket held on bus
The Samarth police on Saturday arrested a youth, Nitin Sitaram Jadhav (27), for stealing Rs18,000 from a passenger on a Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal bus.

Jadhav, a resident of a village in Solapur district, had an accompanied, who is on the run.

Sanjay Bhagwan Walunj (45) of Shrigonda in Ahmednagar was taking his father, Bhagwan Dattatray Walunj (80), to Sahyadri Hospital in Deccan Gymkhana for an angiography in the bus when Nitin pushed Sanjay. When Sanjay bent over to pick up his spectacles, Nitin’s accomplice picked Sanjay’s pocket. Both the suspects jumped off the running bus and started running. However, Sanjay chased Nitin and caught him.

Chikhali ATM thieves arrested
The city crime branch police on Sunday arrested three men who had allegedly stolen an automated teller machine (ATM) of the United Bank of India in Chikhali on July 4, containing Rs7.60 lakh. Acting on a tip-off, the crime branch laid a trap and arrested Samir Khan, Kailas Dubri and Milind Sonawane from Chakan, when they were in preparing to loot a petrol pump in Pimpri area. 

During interrogation, the trio revealed that they had stolen the ATM from Chikhali and then threw parts of machine in Chakan area to destroy evidence.

The police have recovered parts of the machine from Chakan; but it was not immediately known if they were able to recover the
cash.
