Shive Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray took a strong stance against the Congress at an anti-Jaitapur Nuclear Power Project (JNPP) rally on Saturday at Mithgavhane, as he addressed a crowd of more than 50,000. “We do not want to vote for a party which is selling our land, without our consent and arresting activists. Finish off the Congress completely,” appealed Thackeray.

The Sena took full credit for the anti-JNPP movement, promising the villagers that they will fight against the government till the end. “The people of Konkan have helped us in every situation. It was obvious that the Thackeray family would come to help when the region is in grave danger,” said Sena leader Manohar Joshi.

Thackeray, on the other hand, ridiculed the state government for arresting anti-project activists. “Milind Desai was arrested because he called the government shameless. Now, I call the government with the same words. The government, which arrests its own people and goes ahead with police oppression, is shameless and useless. If you have guts then try and arrest me,” he said.

Neither Thackeray nor Sena leader Ramdas Kadam missed the chance to target industries minister Narayan Rane. “Come to Madban and Jaitapur without your police protection and goons. Then let’s see how much support you have,” challenged Thackeray. The Sena, received tremendous response from the Muslim population from Sakhri-Natye.

The party threatened to carry out violent agitations if the project doesn’t get scrapped. “Today I am here, just to warn you. Don’t test my patience. What will happen after this will not be my responsibility,” said Thackeray.

Sub-divisional officer of Jaitapur, Ajit Pawar, was the most talked about government officer for his open threats to the villagers. Former CM Manohar Joshi said, “Both Ajit Pawar’s in this state seem to love to talk such language. But the end for both of them is very near, for sure.”
