Team Anna literally won the day in the city on Sunday. Braving the rains, over one lakh people marched through country’s commercial capital in support of anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare.

The protesters started the march from Bandra railway station and walked all the way to Juhu via Santa Cruz police station. A sizeable number of the protesters were youth who were first timers and had come for the rally not because they were associated with India Against Corruption (IAC) but got to know about it through SMSes.

“We did not know how else we can help and support Anna Hazare. India should be a corruption free nation and our hard earned money should not be flowing into someone else’s pocket. That is the reason why we are part of this,” said Amit Dewan, a 19-year-old FYBMS student.  “A few others will also join us on the way as we all wanted to be part of this,” said Harsh Bathija, a friend of Dewan.

Unlike previous rallies, many like Shanti Bhushan Roy got their family of five with him. “I am into shooting and film making. I do not like to pay bribe and due to that most of my work is stuck. My family understands this. That’s why all my family members have come to support it,” said Roy.

Those who could not participate in the rally, cheered the protesters. At Satguru, a furniture shop on SV Road, Khar, had all its staffers came out shouting “Vande Matram” and “Bharat Mata ki Jai” holding a large portrait of Mahatma Gandhi. “Since we cannot leave our shops, we have decided to cheer for them,” said Arun Lalchandani, an employee of the shop.

Some others clicked pictures of the rally. “We are planning to upload this on internet so that many more people can see this,” said Afreen Moghul, a 21-year-old customer service executive in one shop. “This is like a revolution and we want to be part of it. I wanted my son to get a feel of it and which is why we have come,” said Mehul Shah, marketing professional.
