Teen biker dies trying to avoid pothole

A nineteen-year-old collegian, Siddhesh Doke, died after his bike collided with a speeding car at Aarey Colony, Goregaon (east).

The incident took place around 9.15am on Monday while he was on his way to his college. Doke tried to avoid a pothole in the road due to which he fell on the road and was hit by an oncoming car.

According to police, Siddhesh Doke, a resident of Pant Nagar, Ghatkopar (east) was doing animation course at Whistling Woods International Collage, situated in Film City at Goregaon. On Monday, Doke was on his way to college on his bike. When he reached unit 22 on the road, he swerved to avoid a pothole due to which he lost his balance. In the meantime a car coming from the opposite side hit him.

“Doke fell and car skidded past him. He sustained grievous injuries on his head and other parts of the body. The passers-by informed the police about the accident, and they immediately rushed to the spot,” said a police officer.

“Doke was rushed to Bhagwati hospital with the help of locals but he was declared dead before admission,” said a police officer. Doke’s body was later sent for the post-mortem.

“We informed Doke’s family about the accident. Doke lives in Pant Nagar, Ghatkopar with his mother while his father works as a bank manager in Solapur. His father was also informed about the accident,” said police officer from the Aarey police station. 

“The driver of the car, Gagandeep Jasvinder Singh Dham, 33, did not try to run away so we arrested him from the spot and charged him with causing death due to negligent driving,” said a police officer.

“Dham was sent for medical examination and it was found that he was not under not under the influence of alcohol,” said Laxman Tonpe, senior police inspector, of the Aarey police station.
