Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) will be tapping the small and medium business (SMB) segment in the country with its new fully integrated information technology cloud-based solution called Ion.
According to TCS, 60% of the Indian SMB segment, worth USD 12 billion, is yet to have any enterprise resource planning (ERP) software in place.

V Ramaswamy, global head, SMB, said that in Maharashtra, the manufacturing and education sector would be the prime targets. “There are 19 universities, 3,000 colleges and 7,000 schools in the region, the majority being in Pune. The pricing model for the ERP solution is the pay-per-use model. In the education sector, it will be per-student-per-month pricing that will be used. We will be also targeting 1,900-odd auto component manufacturers in the region, other than those operating in the engineering and fabrication sectors,” he said.

He said the ERP solution based on cloud computing allows an end-user a cost saving of 30-40% compared to the traditional licence software. “All that an end-user has to do is to log in using a password and username. We will give them complete service and support. We have started a dedicated helpline and online chat facility for customers to clear any doubt regarding operation of the ERP suite. Also, email and product support are built-in features,” he said.

Ramaswamy said that after the launch in mid-February, the TCS was able to get 200-odd customers. “We have set a target of 1,000 customers for the financial year. We have 90-plus partners working with us across the country. We have ready to use ERP suite for sectors like retail, manufacturing, health (wellness) and education. As we grow, we will be adding more sectors. For hardware support, 7 to 12 vendors are working with us,” he said.
