The Juhu police arrested builder RR Chaturvedi, of Shreepati Group, for his alleged involvement in a conspiracy to kill rival builder Rashmikant Shah of Vijay Group.

“Through our investigations, we learnt that Chaturvedi gave Udayan Maharaj supari to eliminate Shah. Chaturvedi and Maharaj are the main accused in the case,” said Additional Commissioner of Police (West Region) Bipin Bihari.

Chaturvedi was picked up from his Shreepati Arcade residence at Gamdevi on Wednesday night. He was charged under various sections of Indian Penal Code for criminal conspiracy and abetment of crime and was remanded in police custody till March 20.

The police are also looking into whether there were any links between Chaturvedi and Chhota Rajan as the contract killers hired for Shah’s killing belonged to Rajan’s gang.

Sr PI Pradeep Shinde, Juhu police station said, “We are examining Chaturvedi’s links with Rajan gang. It is likely that some more arrests will be made in the case. But at this stage we cannot divulge anything.”

On February 25, four people who allegedly had links with the Rajan gang were arrested in Juhu. The police said they were there to kill Shah on Maharaj’s instructions.

Shah was handling a project at Abhyudaya Nagar, Kalachowkie worth Rs500 crore under the Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) redevelopment scheme. However, Maharaj intervened and asked Chaturvedi to complete the project. However, a dispute arose between Shah and Maharaj, and therefore, the latter allegedly decided to have him killed.
