With the city experiencing water-logged streets and traffic snarls after heavy showers on Friday evening, the Shiv Sena has undertaken a campaign to take up the civic issues with the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) in all ward offices of the civic body on June 6 and 7.

Shiv Sena spokesperson Neelam Gorhe told reporters on Saturday that after the heavy showers on Friday evening there were traffic snarls due to water logging on streets across the city.

Citizens had to face problems as the PMC failed to clear the nalas and storm water drainage pipes before the arrival of the monsoon season. Besides, the civic body also failed to remove rubble on roads.

Gorhe said that the Shiv Sena would undertake a campaign on June 6 and 7 when Sena corporators and office bearers would be present in all ward offices of the civic body from 11 am to 1 pm.

The civic issues include clearing of nalas and storm water drainage pipes, removal of encroachments, clearing of roads and cleaning of gutters. Citizens can approach Shiv Sena activists with their complaints at ward offices.

She said that the traffic signals also stopped functioning during the traffic snarls on Friday. Ultimately the citizens had to suffer. All Shiv sainiks have been told to volunteer for clearing traffic jams in their areas if the traffic police are not available. Citizens should also try to avoid traffic jams.

Shiv Sena group leader in PMC, Sham Deshpande, party’s city unit chief Nana Wadekar and deputy chief Prashant Badhe were also present along with Gorhe.

She said that Deshpande has moved a proposal before the PMC to abolish octroi on petrol. Shiv Sena would assess public opinion on the issue on Monday evening. The party would submit its report to office bearers of the civic body on Tuesday and urge them to take a positive decision on the proposal.
