The Shiv Sena on Sunday came down heavily on the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) for the latter's statement that it had ensured the transfer of the former municipal commissioner, Mahesh Zagade.

The city president of the NCP, Vandana Chavan, on Saturday said that the party ensured the transfer of Zagade as he did not serve the city well. She said that the party wanted a municipal commissioner who works for the city. As Zagade could not contribute anything towards the city, the party ensured his transfer.

In a statement, the Shiv Sena leader in the PMC, Sham Deshpande, wondered why the NCP had been blind to the contribution made by Zagade as the municipal commissioner for the development of the city.

"We feel that Chavan's remark is a clear message for the present municipal commissioner, Mahesh Pathak, that he must toe the NCP's line. Or else he would also meet the same fate as that of Zagade," Deshpande remarked.

According to the Sena leader, during Zagade's tenure, the PMC had for the first time earmarked Rs10,000 crore in its annual budget for basic and infrastructural development of the city. "Even in a bid to improve governance, Zagade transferred many officers who remained in the same department for many years," he said.
"He also worked hard to solve the problem of Uruli garbage depot and also successfully increased the revenue of construction development charges by almost Rs250 crore," Deshpande said.

The Sena leader demanded that the NCP make public what kind of development projects were proposed by the party that Zagade had ignored.
