The Ghatkopar police on Tuesday arrested Rakesh Choksi, 45, and Raju Kondar, 48, who had in their possession fake stamp papers amounting to around Rs66 lakh.
Stamp papers of Rs500 and Rs50 denominations were found. Choksi is an estate agent by profession while Kondar works as an office assistant.
Both earlier worked in the diamond market at Opera House and havetold the police that they had found the stamp papers dumped in a dustbin in 2003.
Choksi on Tuesday had come to Pipeline Road in Ghatkopar (West) to sell some stamp papers to a client when, acting on a tip-off, the police laid a trap and nabbed him.
“Further investigations are on to check if the two have any links with fake stamp paper scam kingpin
Abdul Karim Telgi,” said a police officer.
