Rs10 lakh jewellery stolen from shop in Chikhali

The incident happened when the complainant had closed the shop and gone home for lunch around 2.35 pm.

Unidentified persons broke into a jewellery shop at Sane Chowk in Chikhali on Friday noon and decamped with gold ornaments valued at Rs10 lakh.

The shop’s owner, Ashok Manaji Shahane, filed a complaint with the Dehu Road police station. According to the police, the thieves broke open the shutters of the adjacent shop before drilling a hole in the wall separating  the two shops and stole the jewellery.
The incident happened when the complainant had closed the shop and gone home for lunch around  2.35 pm. The theft was detected when Shahane reopened the shop around 4 pm.

Speaking to DNA, deputy superintendent of Pune rural police, Shrikrushna Kokate said, “The suspects had prepared forged keys of the adjacent shop.” As the shop does not have CCTV camera, Kokate said, “We are scrutinising footage from CCTV cameras placed in other shops.”
