City legislators have become restless regarding pending projects in the city and have sought a meeting with chief minister Prithviraj Chavan next week.

According to sources, these MLAs want approval of the development plan (DP) of 23 merged villages in the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) at the earliest.

The MLA from Wadgaon Sheri, Bapu Pathare, on Wednesday confirmed to media persons that the MLAs have requested for a meeting with the chief minister and deputy chief minister, Ajit Pawar. He was talking to media persons from Pune who visited the state legislature in Mumbai on Wednesday.

The MLAs have become restless due to the delay in taking decisions about important issues.

It is likely that some of the people’s representatives, including those of ruling the Congress-Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) coalition, would aggressively insist that their government clear pending issues at the earliest.

Members of state legislature from the city want the state government to approve the DP of 23 merged villages as early as possible.

The DP is pending with the state government since 2005. A proposal to form the Pune Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (PMRDA) is also pending with the state government.

It may be recalled that a meeting of people’s representatives from the city with chief minister Chavan was organised in February, 2011. In that meeting, the state government had agreed to approve the metro railway project and to forward the proposal to the Centre for approval by February 28. It had also agreed to form the PMRDA soon.

But till August 4, the state government has neither cleared the DP nor has it forwarded the metro rail project proposal to the Centre. The state government has not also formed the much awaited PMRDA.
