Raj Thackeray meets resident doctors on strike

Maharashtra Navnirman Sena president Raj Thackeray today met the resident doctors at the government-run Sion Hospital, and expressed sympathy, but also appealed them to resume work.

Resident doctors in the state are on strike to protest the recent assault on five doctors in Aurangabad and manhandling of a doctor in the Sion hospital.

"MNS chief asked the doctors to hand him a representation (on their grievances), and assured them that he would talk to the Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan," said MNS leader and MLA Bala Nandgaonkar.

"He (Raj Thackeray) also called Chavan, who is in Delhi. However they could not talk as the Chief Minister was in a meeting," Nandgaonkar told PTI.

MNS chief also asked the doctors to consider withdrawing the strike, saying that the assaults were wrong, but the strike was causing hardship to the patients and their anger was rising.
