Rains raise water level in Mumbai lakes

The lake levels saw an increase of 82,622 million litres of water in the last 24 hours starting 8.30 am yesterday to 8.30 am today, civic officials said.

Heavy downpour over the last three days has pushed up the water levels in the lakes in Mumbai.

The lake levels saw an increase of 82,622 million litres of water in the last 24 hours starting 8.30 am yesterday to 8.30 am today, civic officials said.

Presently, there is 4,68,633 mld of water in all the city lakes as compared to 6,34,144 mld last year, they said.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department, Colaba received 184.7 mm of rainfall while Santacruz 109.3 mm since yesterday 8.30 am till today 8.30 am.

Meanwhile, rains continued to lash different parts of Maharashtra, with Alibaug receiving 104.7 mm of rainfall, Karjat 294.2 mm, Ratnagiri 85 mm, Kolhapur 51 mm, Satara 30.3 mm and Pune 19.7 mm.

The Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rainfall at a few places, and districts of Greater Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg over the next 48 hours.
