Rains disrupt Konkan Railway services

Services of Konkan Railway were affected due to heavy rains in the coastal region while intermittant spells continued to lash different parts of the city.

"Due to heavy rainfall in Konkan region, particularly in Sindhudurg and Kudal, train services on Konkan railway route are disrupted," said Konkan Railway public relations officer, Siddeshwar Telegu.

As a precautionary measure, the Konkan railway is compelled to terminate, divert or cancel some services, he added.

Those trains that have been cancelled are: Madgaon-Sawantwadi Mandovi Express, Ernakulam Express, Sawantwadi-Madgaon and Madgaon-CSTM Janshatabdi Express.

According to the Meteorological Department, Colaba recorded a rainfall of 11.9 mm and Santacruz 12.4 mm in between 8:30 AM and 11:30 AM.

Meanwhile, a portion of a one-storeyed structure collapsed from Haji Ismail Building in Bhoiwada area at around 11 AM, though no one was injured in the incident, officials said.

Around eight incidents of tree collapse were reported from different parts of the city.

Meanwhile, trains on both central and western routes are running almost on time, officials said, adding, road and air traffic is normal.

The Met department forecasts intermittent spells in parts of the city and suburbs and heavy to very heavy rainfall in some areas in the next 24 hours.
