The Central and Western railways have decided to cancel the normal mega blocks on Sunday to facilitate a relatively less frustrating commute for the people who depend on the local trains.

Not only will the railways run normal Sunday schedules without a block, but also operate additional services, some of which are scheduled much later than even the regular weekday ones which operate in the night.

An official statement released by the Western Railway read: “To facilitate people returning from Ganpati immersion on the night of September 11, the WR will run three pairs of 12-car special train service between Churchgate and Virar on the night falling between September 11 and 12.”

The Central Railway also declared that it was planning to run “Visarjan Special” trains on Sunday. An official statement read: “The Central Railway will run two special suburban trains on September 10 and 11 for the benefit of devotees. The special suburban train will run from CST Main at 03.00 hrs and arrive Kalyan at 04.30 hrs stopping at all stations.”

The BEST, however, will not operate almost all of its AC buses but nine on selected routes. The reason: special traffic arrangements made by the Traffic Police will affect the AC bus’ normal functioning. This, in addition with the regular curtailment in the number of bus services is also likely to affect city commuters. No special buses for the festival have been declared.
