Each person boarding the general and unreserved ladies’ compartments of 52 express and mail trains leaving CST every day are being videographed.

Railway protection force officials at CST began the drive on October 25 to help identify criminals, who drug and loot passengers and indulge in chain snatching and bag lifting during the journey.

“We will concentrate on 22 Uttar Pradesh and Bihar-bound mail and express trains leaving CST because we have noticed that crimes occurred more in these trains,” said PC Sinha, senior divisional security commandant, RPF, Central Railway.
The footage will be kept in the RPF office for seven days.
If there is a crime during the journey and the victim registers a case with the GRP/ RPF at that particular station, the RPF officials at CST will contact the victim and show him/her the video footage to identity the culprit.

The four RPF personnel, including a sub-inspector at the CCTV control room, monitor the 72 CCTV cameras round the clock. If personnel manning the control room notice anything unusual, they will inform the RPF office on the hotline and RPF personnel patrolling the platform will look into the matter, said Sinha.
Chief security commissioner Anil Sharma has been making surprise visits to check the system.

“Passengers travelling in unreserved compartments have complained that RPF personnel, men in khaki and railway employees demand money for seats in the general compartment,” said inspector Shakeel Khan, in charge of RPF office at CST.

“The RPF personnel have been announcing to be wary of any RPF personnel or railway employee doing this.”
