The railway police on Thursday arrested a mentally-ill man for throwing stones at the motorman’s cabin of a CST-bound local train at Sion station.

The railway police on Thursday arrested a mentally-ill man for throwing stones at the motorman’s cabin of a CST-bound local train at Sion station. The widow pane of the train was damaged. However, no one was injured.

“Anand Jayant alias Malappa Algiri (37), a labourer, residing at Dharavi was booked under Section 152 (if any person unlawfully throws any rolling stock forming part of a train which is likely to endanger the safety of any person) Indian Railway Act and subsequently remanded in judicial custody till September 3 by the holiday court on Friday,” said inspector Ravindra Dalvi of the Dadar railway police station.

According to the railway police, the incident took place at around 2.45pm on Thursday when the CST-bound local arrived on platform no.2 of the Sion railway station from Kalyan. Once the train stopped at Sion, Anand pelted stones at the motorman’s cabin. The widow screen of the motorman’s cabin was broken. In the intervening time, Anand pelted stones at the ladies compartment. However, no one was injured.

Sub-inspector Vilas Davre, who was patrolling on the platform, rushed to the spot and nabbed Anand.
