A group of seven students, including five visually impaired, formed under the Braille Vani Education Radio (BVER) of the University of Pune will travel to the Indo-Pak border in Punjab to celebrate Diwali.
The tour is scheduled from October 25 and last till November 3.
The visually impaired students will meet soldiers on the border and will take part in various programmes with them as part of their Diwali preparations.
The group is led by Satish Navle of BVER and includes five visually impaired children and two who are sighted (guides).
“This is the sixth year that we are organising this event as part of our annual curriculum of border activities. This year, we will be celebrating Diwali with the jawans, apart from visiting the historical and cultural places in the region. There are various other programmes we have planned during our stay there,’’ Navle told DNA.
Among the activities that the group has planned are interactions with the local youth on the cultural heritage of the country, an exhibition on ‘Devices used by blind’ and inauguration of a mission called ‘Divine vision’.
Navle said, “Divine vision is an initiative by the BVER to introduce e-learning for the visually impaired educating them about culture and history of the country.’’
Most of the group members consider such trips as an endurance exercise. Milind Kamble, a member of BVER said, “Though it apparently looks difficult, such trips will enable us to improve our efficiency. Moreover, the circumstances in which our jawans are guarding the nation motivates us.’’
