Although 24 hours have passed since Dhanashree Ranaware literally came back from the jaws of death, the dazed and haunted look is yet to disappear from her face.

This is understandable as the 8-year-old had witnessed the horrible incident of her father hanging her three siblings and later himself to death on Tuesday. She was also hanged, but escaped by a stroke of luck.

According to the police, Chandrashekar Ranaware (40) killed three of his four children before hanging himself to death in his apartment near Mahabaleshwar Hotel on Baner Road on Tuesday morning. Fortunately, the eldest, Dhanashree, escaped death as the knot of the sari by which she was hanged was undone.

A student of standard II of Dnyaneshwar Balaji Murtuke Vidyalaya in Baner, she was sitting with a numb face along with her mother, Varsha, in the ill-fated house in Baner on Wednesday. Clutching the schoolbag of her dead brother Shreyas, Dhanashree was murmuring to herself of how she was missing him.

Chandrashekar's sister, Jyoti Oval, who was weeping inconsolably, said. "I cannot digest the truth that my brother is no more, as I still keep on calling his cellphone and it is ringing, but he is not answering it."

Dhanashree's maternal uncle, Vaibhav Shishupal told DNA, "After the funeral I opened the door, but Dhanashree preferred to stay out. We had to coax her to enter the house. At night too, she was restless and just pointing to the roof and pleading with her father to stop killing them. We are planning to take her and my sister Varsha to Manchar."

Talking to DNA, Dhanashree time and time again narrated the horrific incident of her father hanging her siblings to death.
