Pune activists urge mass support for Anna Hazare

Prominent activists in the city have called for mass support for the Jan Lokpal Bill, for which social activist Anna Hazare has begun a fast-onto-death campaign in New Delhi.

Activists Vijay Kumbhar, Sandeep Khardekar, Vivek Velankar, Jugal Rathi and cartoonist Mangesh Tendulkar, on Wednesday came together to extend support to Hazare’s campaign.

Drawing attention to the rampant corruption within the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), the activists pointed out how the Jan Lokpal Bill would help in curbing the same. Taking strong exception to the dilution of the Jan Lokpal Bill by the central government, the activists pointed out how it has defeated most of the provisions of the proposed legislation.

The activists also asked municipal commissioner, Mahesh Zagade, to take stringent action against corrupt officials in the PMC.
