A Pune court on Monday directed the police to investigate the allegations levelled against officials of Mercedes-Benz India by a Pune automobile dealer, Millennium Motors Private Ltd.

The dealer has claimed that the company forged documents while settling his dues. Judicial magistrate Renuka Satav issued the order after the dealer’s counsels Harshad Nimbalkar, Pratibha Ghorpade and Ashwini Murkute pleaded that it was a case of forgery, and needed to be investigated thoroughly.

Nimbalkar told DNA that the court has directed the Pune police to investigate the case and to register a case against Mercedes-Benz India officials.

“The car showroom owner had maintained that the company owed him Rs10 crore, but the company officials prepared forged documents and reduced their liability to Rs85.20 lakh,” Nimbalkar claimed, adding, “All the documents and laptops of the company need to be seized by the police for the investigation.”

Last month, six top officials of Mercedes-Benz India, including its CEO and managing director Wilfried Aulbur, had applied for interim anticipatory bail after Millennium Motors Private Ltd’s chairman Dipak Naik filed a complaint with the police, and the court.

Naik’s dealership with the premium car brand was terminated in November last year. When the company and the dealer met to settle dues, Naik claimed that the company owed him Rs10 crore.
Besides Aulbur, Debashish Mitra, sales and marketing director; Uwe Jarosch, finance director; Puneet Chug, general manager (network development); Bhishma Patel, general manager (finance), and Sandeep Sawant, an official, had also applied for anticipatory bail.

The officials had approached the high court, which ruled that in the event of their arrest, they be released on bail upon furnishing bonds of Rs25,000 each.
