Former BJP activist questions the sanity of Pravin Mahajan

MUMBAI: Alaknanda Pangal, a former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) activist who has known the Mahajan family closely, on Wednesday questioned the sanity of Pravin Mahajan, currently being tried for the murder of his brother Pramod Mahajan. The trial judge on Tuesday decided to take Pravin’s statements in camera after he made some “scandalous” statements.

Alaknanda told DNA Pravin was being tried for murdering a “person who was like a father to him, and who looked after him and made his life”. But she declined to say anything further on the case, since the matter was sub judice.
As mediapersons made a beeline for her residence in Borivli, Alaknanda told DNA: “I will talk after Diwali once I consult my advocates.”

She entered active politics in 1995 after her uncle, a senior BJP leader, asked her to join the party. She left the party in 1997 because she wanted to take care of her young daughter. “My daughter was very young and I had to look after her studies,” said Alaknanda, adding that she may join the party some time soon.

“My entire family has been in the RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh) and I was also very involved with them from a young age,” she added.
