He earned Rs5.5 lakh by promising them jobs in Dubai.
The Kalachowkie police on Sunday arrested a manager of a private job recruitment agency for allegedly duping 11 educated job aspirants of Rs5.5 lakh.
The arrested person, identified as Nitin Ambulkar, 35, promised the aspirants jobs of aircraft maintenance mechanics at Dubai. But the agency, Live Well Aviation Services at Lalbaug where Ambulkar is the manager, was unable to give them the jobs in the past eleven months.
“Acting on a complaint, we have arrested Ambulkar for allegedly cheating the job aspirants. An MBA graduate, Ambulkar has been working as a manager at Live Well Aviation Services for the past four years,” said senior police inspector Sunil Jain of Kalachowkie police station.
Ambulkar has been remanded in police custody till May 12 by the additional chief metropolitan magistrate at Mazgaon.
The agency has a branch at Mumbai airport and a sister concern at Dubai. It published advertisements in various Mumbai-based newspapers in July 2009 stating that aircraft maintenance mechanics were needed at Dubai.
Several educated job aspirants contacted the said recruitment agency, applied for the jobs and paid Rs50,000 each for their placement. Many of them later frequently visited the agency’s office at Lalbaug asking about the jobs. But the manager and the office staff allegedly gave them evasive answers.
After waiting for more than 10 months, one of the job aspirants,
Tejas Dandekar, with ten others filed a case of cheating against the agency last week at Kalachowkie police station.
During interrogation, Ambulkar reportedly told the police that they had already sent a batch of 10 job aspirants to Dubai and the next batch of 10 aspirants will be sent in the next few days. The delay, they said, was due to recession and their intention was not to cheat anybody.
