Parties for early execution of Ajmal Kasab

Political parties in Maharashtra today welcomed the death sentence handed down to Ajmal Amir Kasab in the Mumbai terror attack case and said they wanted to see the noose around his neck soon.

Congress president Kripashankar Singh said Kasab deserved no other punishment except death. "The death sentence should be executed at the earliest".

Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) spokesman Shirish Parkar said people expect the judgement to be implemented at the earliest. "We want to see the noose around Kasab's neck soon."

Union Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh too welcomed the sentence, saying it was the "most appropriate" punishment for the henious crime committed by him.

"There can be no other punishment for him," Deshmukh, who was the state's chief minister when the attacks took place, told PTI.

He said the court's decision would give some solace to the families of the victims of the terror attack. "We lost some trusted police officers and cannot bring them back. But, the judgement will ease the grief of their families to some extent. I would like to congratulate all those responsible for bringing this judgement quickly," Deshmukh said.

Deshmukh's son Riteish was the first among the Bollywood personalities to react to the judgement on the microblogging site, Twitter.

"Judgement welcomed," the actor tweeted.

State BJP chief Sudhir Mungantiwar said, "The judicial system has done a good job and now it is up to the state government and the Centre to make sincere efforts to ensure that the death sentence is executed immediately."

Mungantiwar said "if hanging is delayed like that of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru with an eye on vote bank,it would be an insult to the innocent lives lost in the terror attack and the martyrs who laid down their lives fighting the terrorists".

Shiv Sena spokesperson Neelam Gorhe said there was a need to quickly implement judgements delivered through speedy justice system so that terrorists can be prevented from killing innocent people.

NCP spokesman Madan Bafna said the people of Mumbai as well as the entire country wanted the harshest punishment for Kasab. "We expect the further legal process would be completed at the earliest and Kasab be sent to gallows".
