Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson, Syed Shahnawaz Hussain, on Saturday wondered whether the Parliament deadlock was a pre-planned move by the ruling Congress party to avoid uncomfortable questions about black money, Lokpal Bill and the controversial proposal to allow foreign direct investment (FDI) in the retail sector.

Hussain was addressing a press conference in the city. “The Congress is afraid to face questions in Parliament. The adjournment of Parliament is just a ploy to divert people’s attention from issues like Lokpal, inflation and black money,” he said.

The stalemate in Parliament over FDI in the retail sector continued for the 10th day on Saturday, with the opposition and some members of the ruling UPA seeking withdrawal of the proposal.
The entry of European and American companies in retail would lead to closure of small shops, and cause mass unemployment, he said.

According to Hussain, the BJP is sure about its chances of coming to power in the upcoming elections.

“The country has been at the receiving end of corruption and inflation under the UPA. We are sure that the upcoming elections will see us in power, as the inefficiency of the UPA has been revealed to the masses,” he said.
