Nooriya Haveliwala issued restriction order from travelling abroad

Nooriya Haveliwala, 28, has been issued a fresh ‘restriction order’ by the Foreign Regional Registration Office (FRRO) stopping her from going abroad for a professional assignment.

The authority feels that if Haveliwala is allowed to go out of the country, she won’t be return to face the criminal trial in which charges against her have been framed.

Haveliwala a India-born US national is charged of running over two people on January 30, 2010, in her Honda CRV, allegedly under the influence of alcohol and drugs. The two persons killed were sub-inspector Dinanath Shinde and biker Afzal Ibrahim.

Recently, as per orders of the deputy commissioner of police (Zone II), the FRRO had issued her the restriction order. Replying to the show cause notice, Haveliwala had informed the FRRO that the action was unfair and arbitrary and illegal. However, in their order dated October 13, the authority rejected all her claims and passed the restriction order.

Thus Haveliwala has challenged the order of restriction before the high court. In her petition, she had stated that she is a beautician by profession and has to go abroad on assignments.

A division bench of justice AM Khanwilkar and justice Rajesh Ketkar will now be hearing the petition on Friday.
