After issuing several warnings, the Bangur Nagar police registered a complaint against Sankalp Entertainment India, one of the city’s popular dandiya organisers, the DJ and other staff for playing music beyond the permissible 55-decibel (dB) limit on Wednesday night.

However, no arrests have been made.

“We checked the decibel levels thrice between 10pm and 11.55pm at the Sankalp event at Goregaon Sports Club and found that the music was louder than the permissible limit all three times,” said Ramrao Pawar, additional commissioner of police, north region.

“We booked the organiser, Jigar Parekh, of Sankalp Entertainment India, the DJ, contractor and sound and light technicians, and invoked the Environment Protection Act and Noise Pollution Rules,” said Pawar.

“At 10.16pm, the music was playing at 95.3dB and at 11.09pm, at 83.2dB. Both the times, we warned the organisers to reduce the volume, but they did not. Finally, when we checked the decibel level at 11.51pm and found it to be at 84.9dB, we decided to file a case,” said Pawar.

This Navratri, deputy commissioner of police Mahesh Patil (zone XI) had formed police teams to monitor the noise levels at all dandiya venues in the area. Every day, the teams would report to Patil if any organiser was found violating the noise pollution norms.
