The bids invited by Pune Cantonment Board (PCB) to collect vehicle entry tax (VET) have evoked no response.

Board has now decided to appoint persons on contract basis to collect the tax at 13 points until re-tendering is done.

The revenue department of the board would monitor the activities at these points. Initially, PCB had planned to receive the bids on July 25 but was postponed due to squabbles between the two parties on the issue.

Later it was decided that the bids would be received for two days from July 28. But none of the contractors turned up for the bid.
PCB has taken a stand to run the VET all by themselves and hire people in the thirteen check-posts in their vicinity, and it would be monitored by the board officials.

"This is nothing new when it comes to VET and last year the board ran the show for over six months," said a senior member of the board, Sangita Pawar.

According to sources in the PCB, there are a couple of contractors who are not allowing other interested parties to take part in the bid.

"On July 25, we had two bidders but as per the rules the minimum requisite is three bidders. Hence, the process had to be cancelled on that day," Pawar added.PCB has taken a stand to run the VET all by themselves
