PUNE: The Pune rural police have not made any headway in the alleged gang rape of the IBM Daksh call centre employee, even as they claimed discrepancies in the account of the 22-year-old woman’s male companion who lodged the complaint.
The police have not recorded the victim’s statement as she is said to be in mental trauma at Sassoon General Hospital. Her medical reports are expected by Monday evening.
Additional superintendent of police (rural) Pravin Patil told DNA that statements of her roommates and landlord indicated that the victim did not step out of her room on the night intervening Thursday and Friday when the crime was stated to have happened. However, he said, “There is prima facie evidence of rape as she seems to have suffered bruises in her hands and legs in the incident,” Patil said.
The victim who joined IBM Daksh six months ago, moved into her rented premises just opposite her office on Pune-Saswad road some 15 days ago. Her 25-year-old friend who stays in the same building had lodged a complaint with the Loni Kalbhor police on Saturday stating that about 10 unidentified suspects, including call centre cab drivers, allegedly took her to Tukaimata Mandir hill near Phursungi village late Thursday night and raped her. The suspects released the victim in the wee hours of Friday, he said. The complaint also stated that the victim left her room after she got a call from a woman colleague around 11 pm on Thursday night.
Patil said the victim had taken leave from work on Wednesday and she and her male companion had spent the day together in the city and had gone to the Empress Garden. They also went to Tukaimata Mandir hills and spent two hours there. “The two also went to a doctor during the day,” he said.
Patil also said that the victim attended office on Thursday, but left early as she was not keeping well. “There are too many loopholes in the details provided by the complainant about the spot of the crime, the suspects and the cab. The phone details of the victims are awaited, and they may clear the picture,” he said.
