Chairman of city based Maratha Vidya Prasarak Samaj Nitin Thakare would contest the state legislative council elections from the Nashik graduate constituency on the NCP ticket.
Talking to newspersons here last evening NCP MLAs Hemant Takle and Vasant Pawar announced Thakare's name for the seat, which was vacated by BJP's Pratap Sonawane after he got elected to Parliament early this year.
Thakare's candidature would get support from the Congress as well which is not claiming the seat, both Takle and Pawar added.
The BJP has nominated Prasad Hiray for the seat.
