National Investigating Agency (NIA) teams have gone to southern states to get all possible leads in the recent Mumbai serial blasts. The NIA officials are questioning all possible suspects and people linked to terror outfits.

Till date various agencies, including the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad, the Mumbai Crime Branch, Intelligence Bureau and also the NIA were unable to identity the terror group responsible for the serial blasts that claimed 20 lives.

Though the evidence collected so far points to the involvement of some local group and the Indian Mujahideen in the blasts, involvement of other groups which have connection with terror organisations across the border is not being ruled out. The NIA teams are also checking the involvement of terror outfits operating from across the border.

It is also suspected that terrorists, who were recruited recently by terror groups to carry out terror activities in the country, are operating from southern states.

The suspects are believed to be active in southern states and there is a huge possibility that these new cadres were involved in the blasts.

A senior central investigative agency officer said, “We are collecting all possible clues from our sources. We will share it with the sleuths probing the serial blasts so that the case could be cracked quickly. And going to various states is a part of the operation."

Though the primary investigation in the blast is being carried out by the Maharashtra ATS and the Mumbai Crime Branch, team from agencies like the NIA and the Intelligence Bureau have been questioning and getting in touch with their sources to get all possible details about terror groups, which are active in various states.

The NIA teams are also probing that whether the new terror groups, which are believed to be offshoots of existing groups like the Indian Mujahideen, are getting any assistance from their mother outfits. The NIA officials are also probing whether these new terror groups are making their roots stronger in the southern states like Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu.
