NCP corporator booked for youth's murder in Pune

The Sangvi police booked a Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) corporator, Prashant Krishnarao Shitole, of the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) on Tuesday over a fight between two groups that led to the death of a youth on Monday night.

The violence broke out when a procession was taken out to celebrate the Navratri festival in Old Sangvi area. The police identified the deceased as Tushar Rajendra Dhore (24), a resident of the same locality.

The brawl took place at Ganpati Chowk. Both groups lodged cross-complaints at Sangvi police station. Tushar's friend, Ganesh Subhash Dhore (24) of Old Sangvi, lodged a complaint against Shitole, Ganesh Dhamale, Harshad Makar and Amit Gandhi. Dhamale was arrested.

Another complaint was lodged by Gandhi against Harshal Dhore, Ajinkya Dhore, Santosh Gunware and Kiran Pale, all residents of Old Sangvi. All four were arrested.

The police said Jai Ganesh Group in Sangvi had organised the procession. Prashant and Harshal are political rivals.

Both the Dhore and Shitole groups participated in the procession. At 10.30 pm, members of Shitole group manhandled Bablu Darekar of the Dhore group.

Darekar informed Harshal about the incident. As a result, members of both groups, armed with sticks and sharp weapons, rushed to the spot and attacked each other. Tushar received major injuries on his neck. He died in hospital on Tuesday. Harshal Dhore's car, which was also attacked on Monday night.
