Nashik teenager Pritish Patil (17) is on a hat-trick. Pritish who has bagged a silver medal each in the international astronomy and biology Olympiad in the recent past, has now been selected to represent India in the earth science Olympiad in September this year.

Pritish had bagged a silver medal representing India in the International Astronomy Olympiad at Ukraine in October 2010 and a silver medal at the International Biology Olympiad held in Taiwan in July this year.

He will now participate in the International Earth Science Olympiad to be held in Modena, Italy in September 2011.

The other members of the team are Yash Gupta, Yash Nalwaya and Jashan Singhal.
Pritish's father Laxminath told DNA that he was extremely happy with his son's achievements.

"We do realise that Pritish is displaying rare talent but this is just the beginning for him. He is still very young and has to go a long way.''

National co-ordinator, Science Olympiads Vijay Singh has specially recognised the efforts of Pritish and Twinkle.

"Two of the students who won medals, namely Twinkle Parekh (Silver) and Pritish Patil (Silver) have just cleared the Std XI examination. It must be noted that the students representing India in the Biology Olympiad are normally from Std XII. Their achievements are thus unique,'' Singh said.

The selection for international Olympiads is a three-tier process held by the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE), the nodal centre for all Science Olympiads.

The first-tier consists of a nationwide examination.

The remaining two-tiers consist of a series of difficult selection tests, both theory and practical.

The effort is supported by Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), Department of Science and Technology (DST) and the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) of the Government of India.
