Mumbaikars can enjoy rain till October 2nd week

The India Meteorology Department (IMD) announced that the southwest monsoon has withdrawn from parts of northwest India. However, it is set to recede from the city and the state in the first week of October. 

"The southwest monsoon has withdrawn from some parts of Jammu division in Jammu & Kashmir, along with Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Gujarat and the north of Arabian sea," the IMD update stated.

"It will be withdrawn from Mumbai and Maharashtra in the first week of October," said NY Apte, deputy director general of IMD, adding that it will not affect the rainfall activity in the city or the state.

The IMD had predicted last week that the southwest monsoon will recede from northwest areas around September 24. The withdrawal has been delayed for the seventh consecutive year.

Since June 1, Colaba and Santa Cruz has received 1433mm and 1854mm rainfall respectively, which is 556mm and 317mm below normal respectively.

According to the IMD, the withdrawal line of the southwest monsoon passes through Jammu, Ludhiana, Hissar, Churu, Jodhpur and Naliya.  "The conditions are favourable for further withdrawal of southwest monsoon from the remaining parts of the northwest," the update further stated.

Officials from the IMD said that it will recede from Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, west of Uttar Pradesh, parts of Madhya Pradesh and the remaining areas of Gujarat in the next two to three days.
