Making a breakthrough in the Colaba double murder case in which a 33-year-old woman and her 18-month-old son were found dead in their house recently, the police have arrested her husband on the basis of suspicion and circumstantial evidence.

According to Jaiprakash Jaiswal, he found his wife, Sujata Jaiswal, and their son, Mayur, strangled in their house in Sundari Nagar near the Colaba market when he returned from work on November 15. He reportedly called in the police after breaking open the lock on the main door.

Police sources said Sujata’s mother and Dharavi resident Ranjana Suryavanshi suspected Jaiprakash’s hand behind the murders.

“On the basis of circumstantial evidence, we have arrested Jaiprakash for his alleged involvement in the crime and are investigating the motive behind the crime,” said an officer from the Colaba police station.

Jaiswal and Sujata had married three years ago. Jaiprakash worked as a cook at a building in Colaba and Sujata worked as a help at the same place. They reportedly fell in love there and married. But according to Suryavanshi, the couple had frequent quarrels, which possibly led to the murders.
