Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray is all set to teach auto and taxi drivers in Mumbai a lesson. Riding on the general wave of discontent against auto and taxi unions, thanks to their leader Sharad Rao, Thackeray on Tuesday announced that his party activists will take care of insolent drivers, MNS style.

“The arrogance of these people has gone beyond the common Mumbaikar’s patience. They loot the citizens with their tampered meters, deny short distance fare and above all threaten Mumbaikars with strikes. Now the people of Mumbai will not tolerate this and from tomorrow the people will vent out their anger in any manner possible,” warned Thackeray.

Locking horns directly with union leader Rao, Thackeray held him responsible for holding Mumbaikars at ransom every other day by calling the strike. “Someday there’s strike in BMC or someday the buses are on strike. Now it is the turn of taxi and autos. If you (Sharad Rao) keep on doing this, it will be difficult for you to even come out of your house,” said Thackeray, demanding electronic meters to be installed in autos.

“What I am saying right now, is written in the rule book. I am telling them (drivers) to follow the rules. Those who are not ready to follow these rules will learn the lesson, through my activists from Wednesday,” he said.

Reiterating his stand on ‘outsiders’ he alleged that the drivers who behave arrogantly are outsiders and people like Abu Azmi are taking their sides for that sole reason. Bringing the members of Upadhye family in front of media, who were beaten up by an auto driver in Vikroli, he said that if people decide to vent out their anger no one can save the autowallas. “There is not enough police force to safeguard these autowallas. Let’s see what Sharad Rao can do, when people come out on road in anger,” he said.
