A 17-year-old college student died in a railway accident on Wednesday when his head hit against the railway pole between Malad and Kandivali on Western Railway. He was identified as Jaideep Dodia, resident of Bhayander, said senior police inspector PM Karyakarte of Borivali railway police station.

Jaideep was studying in FYJC at Lord’s College at Malad. The incident took place at around 5.30 pm when Jaideep was going home after attending his lectures at college. He along with colleagues boarded second class compartment of the Virar bound local at Malad. He was hanging on the foot board and leaning outside.  At the same time, chit chatting with his colleagues in the running train.

When the train was moving towards Kandivali, his head hit against railway pole and subsequently fell off the train. His colleagues informed the railway police personnel at Kandivali station when the train reached there. The railway police rushed to him to Bhagwati Hospital, Borivali where he was declared dead before admission. His father Naveen Dodia was informed about the incident, said Karyakarte and added that the body was handed over to Dodia after the post-mortem.

Karyakarte appealed to the commuters particularly youths and college students that they should not travel on the foot board of the local train and subsequently lean out of the running train as it may cause danger to their lives.
