Mulund police have arrested a gang of four dacoits for stealing cars from Mulund and using the stolen cars to rob people in Gujarat and other states.

“Deepak Shukla, 31; Paramjeet Singh, 27; Praveen Marge, 28 and Imranmiya Mallik, 27, were arrested from Anand in South Gujarat on Friday and recovered two stolen cars- Maruti Swift and Honda City from them,” said sub inspector Tukaram Padir of Mulund police station and added that they were remanded in police custody till August 3 by the

Mulund metropolitan magistrate court on Saturday. Paramajeet Singh was the gang leader. The gang has been stealing cars and indulging in dacoity for the last five years. They were earlier arrested by the Thane crime branch for dacoities in Ulhasnagar and Badlapur. These crimes were also committed using stolen cars.

Describing the modus operandi, Padir said that Singh, who stays in Mulund, used to steal cars parked  on the road or in societies by using duplicate keys. The cars were then taken to Gujarat and other states and were used in robbing people.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the brand new Maruti Swift belonging to Geeta Singh, 45, was parked on RP Road in Mulund (West) and was stolen on July 15, 2011.  The Honda City of Ramesh Khialani, 43, had been stolen from his compound.
